VICTORIA

The Victoria Real Estate Board (VREB) Core region comprises seven districts, including Victoria, Victoria West, Oak Bay, Esquimalt, View Royal, Saanich East, and Saanich West. The VREB district of Victoria is part of the Core region and covers the City of Victoria, excluding Victoria West, and is sub-divided into 13 neighborhoods. Victoria, located on the southern tip of Vancouver Island, is Western Canada's oldest city and the capital of British Columbia. It is known for having the mildest climate in Canada, boasting a setting of ocean and mountain vistas, and offering numerous economic, cultural, and recreational opportunities. The Inner Harbour is the heart of Victoria, with the Fairmont Empress hotel, the world-renowned Royal British Columbia Museum, and the BC Parliament Buildings bordering the harbor.     • VICTORIA WEST

    The district of Victoria West, also known as "Vic West," is located on the west side of the Victoria harbor and is part of the Core region. It offers a variety of housing options including traditional residential, multi-family housing, and innovative commercial developments such as the Dockside Green sustainable development project which was built on former industrial land. The neighbourhood covers approximately 158 hectares (390 acres) and has a population of approximately 6,805 people, which is about 9% of Victoria's total population. The neighbourhood is divided into two areas.

    • OAK BAY

    The district of Oak Bay, located in the Core region, is equivalent to the municipal District of Oak Bay and is divided into six neighbourhoods.

    Oak Bay is renowned for its stunning coastline, which offers breathtaking views of the ocean. The architecture in the area is diverse and ranges from the late 19th century style of renowned architects like Francis Rattenbury and Samuel McLure to the contemporary West Coast style of today. Oak Bay is considered to be one of the most sought-after residential areas in Greater Victoria.

    In addition to its picturesque scenery, Oak Bay is home to the Uplands Golf Club, the Victoria Golf Club, the Oak Bay Marina, and the Royal Victoria Yacht Club. The municipality also has three recreation centres, and its primary shopping areas, Oak Bay Avenue and Estevan, maintain a charming village-like atmosphere. Oak Bay shares the University of Victoria and Camosun College with the neighboring municipality of Saanich.

    • ESQUIMALT

    The district of Esquimalt is located in the Core region of the Victoria Real Estate Board and corresponds to the municipal Township of Esquimalt. It is sub-divided into 6 neighbourhoods and provides an interesting contrast in lifestyles with an abundance of parks, foreshore vistas, and a marina. The area has a strong mix of high-quality residential properties, some excellent waterfront properties, and a very active business community, including a light industrial district. It also has a well-established community spirit, and all of its services were well-developed many years ago. Some of the most attractive residential areas in Esquimalt are Saxe Point and Rockheights.

    Esquimalt offers a full range of recreational facilities, including a curling rink, indoor swimming pool, recreation center, and the top-ranked Gorge Vale Golf Club. It is also a very pleasant and sun-filled location, facing the western approaches from the sea. Esquimalt is home to the Department of National Defence and the headquarters of Canada's Pacific Naval Fleet. The Canadian Forces Base Esquimalt employs around 4,000 military and 3,000 civilian personnel, making it a significant contributor to Victoria's economy.

    • VIEW ROYAL

    The district of View Royal, part of the Core region, corresponds to the municipal Town of View Royal and is sub-divided into 5 neighbourhoods. View Royal holds some amazing oceanfront homes and hidden gems!

    • SAANICH EAST

    Saanich East is one of the seven districts that comprise the VREB Core Region, which also includes Victoria, Victoria West, Oak Bay, Esquimalt, View Royal, and Saanich West. It covers the eastern half of the municipal District of Saanich and is made up of 19 neighbourhoods. 

    One of the highlights of Saanich, particularly on its eastern side, is the University of Victoria, which is a significant part of the local community. The district is known for its ecological diversity and leisure potential, featuring 170 municipal parks, three regional parks, and a cycling network route. In fact, Saanich has the highest number of parks per capita of any municipality in British Columbia. Golf enthusiasts will also find several courses in Saanich, including Blenkinsop Valley, Cedar Hill, Cordova Bay, and Prospect Lake.
